Eight UOW researchers to join the 2024 Australian Research Council College of Experts

New appointments highlight impressive research expertise at UOW

Eight University of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ (UOW) researchers have been appointed to the 2024 Australian Research Council (ARC) College of Experts.

The ARC College of Experts play critical roles in the competitive research grant process, which supports advancement of knowledge, contributes to national innovation, and delivers significant benefits to the Australian community. The members are experts of international standing drawn from the Australian research community.

The new members from UOW are:

  • Professor (School of Business)
  • Professor (School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering)
  • Associate Professor (School of Education)
  • Distinguished Professor (Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security)
  • Professor (School of Law)
  • Distinguished Professor (School of Computing and Information Technology)
  • Professor (School of Chemistry and Molecular Bioscience)
  • Professor (School of Chemistry and Molecular Bioscience)

The eight new UOW members are part of a total of 99 new appointments announced by the ARC this week. They join more than 300 ARC College of Experts members in 2024 – the largest contingent since 2010.

Professor Julia Quilter said she was honoured to join the ARC College of Experts in 2024.

“I look forward to making a contribution to the work of the ARC, supporting quality research in Australia, and strengthening my ability to provide advice and mentoring to colleagues,” Professor Quilter said.

UOW Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research and Sustainable Futures) Professor David Currow congratulated the University’s newest members.

“The academic expertise at UOW is exceptional and I’m delighted to see so many of our researchers join the ARC College of Experts,” Professor Currow said.

“Their engagement and contribution will be not only beneficial to the ARC, but to the wider Australian research community.”

The University will now have 16 ARC College of Expert members, with the newest cohort joining existing members Professor Annette Braunack-Mayer, Professor Mirella Dottori, Associate Professor Susanna Guatelli, Senior Professor Daniel Hutto, Senior Professor Huijun Li, Senior Professor Weihua Li, Associate Professor Alexander Mackay and Senior Professor Colin Murray-Wallace.

ARC College of Experts nominations are called for annually, with appointments for a three-year term. An induction meeting for the ARC College of Experts will be held in Canberra on 30 October 2023.
